My Promise to you…

As a member of the Board of Trustees, I will work to change the current culture of the board and institute an open, more inclusive, decision-making culture for our faculty, students and alumni to voice their opinion and participate.

I will push for change to the existing board charter and more importantly, the board structure, which has not been modified since 1855. We need to restore public trust in our leadership; after all, it is OUR University.

I will bring an important perspective on the impact of engineering and emerging technologies on our students’ lives and those of citizens of the Commonwealth and the world.

I will look critically at the University budget to formulate cost savings that will help restrain tuition hikes.

Drawing on my experience as the 2008 President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, I will work to position Penn State as a leader in addressing the key issues of today: energy, education and healthcare.

Through engagement in innovative and multidisciplinary educational programs, I will work to strengthen our students’ global outlook, increase their engagement with industry and the professions, and develop affordable, sustainable, and innovative solutions that will spin out new industries, create jobs, and generate wealth.

I will call upon our alumni to participate in mentoring programs with students to enhance their professional development through Civic and Community service, volunteer activities, study abroad, honors programs, and research – an important driver of innovation, our economy, and the well-being of our society.

During this time of economic uncertainty, the need for financial aid and scholarships has never been greater. Together with the university, we must double our efforts to provide scholarships and resources to students from our underserved communities.

Now is not the time to be shy. We must make strategic investments in our students’ lives and their education to create a new generation of Penn State global citizens.

I ask for your support.
